Knights of DayBreak: 1 By: W.Bob Yankovic Welcome. This is a new series that I am going to be co-writing with Mac. It is hoped to fill in the gap between Sword of Darkness and the beginning of Pioneer: Winter. It will center around the rebuilding and corruption of NCC and DGF. I hope that you will enjoy it. "Do you Shane McInnis take Katrina Leafwind as your lawfully wedded wife?" Ray said as he stood before us. I felt the mix of feelings inside me begin to swirl. Thoughts of friends lost and many more gained, battle lost and won, good times and bad, filled my heart. Then as I looked down at the beautiful woman that would soon be my wife I remembered the battle that had ended only a short week ago. MewTwo searching for ultimate power used a darkstone on himself, this caused him to evolve into Armewgeddon who wielded the Sword of the Whole. Seraphim had been called by the Sword and almost bested us in the battle. We had overcome though, sacrifices were made by us all to win. I almost lost the love of my life. Yet as I stood there overwhelmed by the memories of my past I realized that my life was not yet over. I was soon to have a wife. Then I would revamp the DGF. One day I might even have children. A tear slipped from my eye as I looked up to Ray and said, "I do." With that he proclaimed that I may kiss the bride. I leaned over and as our lips touched a wild sence of freedom came over me. I felt alive as I never had before. As I wrapped my arms around her she pulled away from my kiss and mouthed "I love you" above the cheers of my friends. I turned to my best man Hogo. He gave me a quick thumbs up and patted my back. As I looked over to my groomsmen I saw Frag, who looked very uncomfortable in a tux, and Mac who looked very dashing in his dress-labcoat. They both came over and shook my hand with smiles then they directed me down the aisle to the hover car that would take my new wife and I to the reception. I picked up Katrina and flew down the aisle, being showered by rice and confetti. "I would like to make a toast!" proclamied Link as he stood up from his table, "To Shane and Katrina! May there years together be many, and their love stronger than the Triforce!" The party erupted in small taps as people around hit there glasses together. Katrina and I sat in the center of long tables spreading out in a V shape. Gomasaki, the other trees, and Terra sat in bridesmades dresses on Katrina's left. The Renegade Force, Mac, Ray, and Frag sat to my right. The Tables piled with food streched out in the grand hall of NCC. Guests from my past filled the room. I saw many faces from my past that came up and congradulated us. I felt so happy, and so complete. As the guests began to gradually filter out, and the food began to dissappear Katrina and I slipped out the back. I led her down several halls down deep into the center of NCC. I was taking her to my secret hiding place. I had discovered it the first week that I was stationed on NCC. It was a small supply room where I went to think, pray, meditate, train, ect. The best thing about it was no one ever came down to this area. I had cut out all the survelance and communications. It was totally secure. "Where are we going?" she asked me a I led her around a large bend in the cooridor. "Right here," I said as I opened the door. The room lay out in front of us. "This is where I come when I need to be alone." She slipped her hand out of mine and walked into the room. She stopped several times to look at pictures I had hung on the walls of friends long gone. She paused as she read the epigraph I had written under the picture of Luke Skywalker. "You looked up to him didn't you?" she asked quietly, "Why did you bring me here?" I pushed back the memories of Luke that had rose up from inside me and walked over to her. "I wanted you to see something," I said. As we walked along the wall I told her of the brave warriors that I had fought with. I told a story about each of the men as we walked by. "Goku showed me how to channel my energy into an attack," I told her. She asked questions about some of the people, and recognized the faces of some from some films and data cards she had read. As we reached the end of the room she paused and looked at me. "Why did you make this room?" she asked. I wiped away a few tears shed for dead heros and said, "Some people deserve to be honored even when the are dead. These men all gave their lives to save many more. They didn't even know what their life was worth to the ones they saved. I felt like I should make something to keep their memories in my heart. I also used this room to regain my focus in life. I knew that I was destined to be a fighter, so I wanted to look at the men that tought me how. I guess I just wanted to find a way to hold on." I led her out the door and shut it. Then, using a small finger sized attack, I welded the door shut. It was forever to be a shrine of fallen warriors. But never again would I need to be alone to find my way. "From now on I will look to you for help and focus," I said as I embraced my new wife. The honey moon went well. We returned from Earth the day that Ray was planned to resign indefinatly from the DGF and name me the sole leader. "How do you like my home planet?" Ray asked us as we walked down the hall to the Supreme Gaurdian Chamber. "It is very beautiful, very much like Hyrule, minus the Skullchildren and Faries," Katrina answered with a smile. She reached up to pick a piece of lint off of my uniform. I hated wearing dress blues but it was custom when being promoted. As we entered the room the mighty beaurocrats stood and smiled at me. They had been in control of the DGF for several years. They had cornered us with their seemingly endless money and power. I was fixing to change that. Ray walked up onto the podium with Katrina and I flanking him on the left. "You may be seated," he said as he began his speech. I noticed Abbie sitting in the crowd already. She gave Ray nod as if to say "it is ok, I support you." "Ladies and gentlemen, today is a day of change in the DGF. After very much deliberation and prayer I have decided to announce my retirement from the DGF. I dissolve all connections to the Supreme Gaurdians and the DGF as a whole. With this I hope to simplify my lifestyle and settle down." The crowd began to talk with a thousand voices in the suprise of this announcement. "I have thought long and hard about the person who I would name as my successor. I have decide to name Supreme Gaurdian Shane McInnis as leader and Commander of the Dimentional Gaurdian Force." The crowd errupted, some with cheers, some with shouts of protest. I looked over to the beaurocrat section to see them smiling and applauding. They thought that they were gonna have no trouble controling me. Ray stepped aside and I walked up to the podium. "Thank you Ray," I said smiling, "Ladies and gentleman today is a day of changing indeed. Corruption has ruled the DGF for years now. Money and power brokers have made many people submit to their ideals. I tell you that this will no longer happen!" As I said this the money men suddenly didn't look so happy. I pulled out my commlink. "When I press this button my symbioyte Hogo will buy a controling percentage of the stock in the leading 4 monopolies leaving me in their control." I pressed the button. The ring leader of the money alliance, Jordan Brin stood up and yelled "We will ruin you for this McInnis!" I just smiled and let out a chuckle. "Well I don't really see how when I just bought more of Brinteck than you have. Oh my isn't that your company?" I joked. He stormed out of the room followed by several others. "This marks the rebirth of the DGF!" I yelled over the mic. A roar of approval shot out among the people of the oppressed companies. Now they could develop and expand without worring about being stomped out by opressers. I hushed the crowd with my hand. "This is just one of the many reformations that I will make as the head of the DGF. My first order of business is to appoint the current Supreme Gaurdians as the heads of my new companies. I feel that they will keep my best interests in their minds when they make decisions concerning the futures of these companies. My second order of business is to begin deliberations to find six more Supreme Gaurdians. I already have one person that is a definate for one of the seats." I looked over to the left front row to see Mac, Frag, and their trees. "Mac, I would be honored if you would serve with me," I said to him. If the shock of Ray annoucing me as the leader didn't do it yet, the shock of me selecting Mac as a Supreme Gaurdian was definatly gonna give someone a heart attack. I said a few more words and stepped back from the podium. I walked out of the Hall shaking hands with new supporters and dodging media personel trying to get a quote. I had an appointment that I didn't want to miss. As I walked down the halls I hoped that Frag would be at the meeting place. I really wanted him to become a SG but seriously doubted that he would. He was never big on being a part of a team so to say. He was more of a loner. Personally I don't know how Gomasaki tolerated him some times. But overall he was a pretty good guy. I rounded a corner and there he stood. His ever present sun glasses were proped on the end of his nose as he looked up at me. "Hey man, how is it goin?" I asked in hopes that he would show a little sympathy for my situation. "I guess that I am doing ok," he replied with a fake grin. "You know why I am here don't ya?" I asked half way hoping that he would answer no. "Yes, and my answer is no, don't try to convince me." he replied quickly. This came as no suprise to me. He had been very distant of late, often dissappearing for days at a time. "What is wrong?" I asked. He took a long breath and looked at me. I could see pain and greif in his eyes. I could tell that something was eating at him. The Frag I once knew seemed a thousand miles away. This Frag was concerned about something and I wasn't content with just shaking his hand and leaving. "I got the Ultimate Force back, you know," he said. He paused for a moment and added, "My life is destined to be played as a token in a big poker game being played by the gods. It seems that I will forever be tossed about with no direction. I hope one day that I can just die. That is the only way that I can be at peace, but until that time I will play the role that I didn't choose, I will go along with the path that fate has chosen for me." I had to admit his life had been screwed up since I first met him. I really didn't know what to say at that moment. I just looked at him standing there torn between his hopes and dreams and the hand that was delt to him. "Hey, you always have a friend, whenever or whatever you need just call me or send message somehow and I will be there," I said trying to make him feel a little better. "Sure, same for you," he replied. I didn't know why I did it but I reached around him and gave him a hug. It seemed like the right thing to do. I guess it was one of those Kodak moments that mothers take pictures of to black male you in older age. As I opened a portal to return to the Grand Hall he reached out ahand and grabbed my shoulder. "Thanks for your help," He said. I nodded and said the same to him. I stepped through the portal and took the last glimpse of my friend that I would see in many many years. "Where did you go?" Katrina asked as I stepped back into NCC. "To see a friend," I said with a smile. I took her hand inside mine. Hers was a hand so soft and smooth that it looked as if it were made of silk. Her skin was so pure that I blinked to see if I was dreaming or not. Then I looked at my hand. This hand had caused so much pain, yet it had also saved many from pain. She was a complete opposite to me in outer appearance. But I knew that she was sent to me to fulfill my life. We began to walk back to our room. I silently ran over the huge task that lay out before me. I had to give a new birth to the DGF, I had to straighten out NCC, and most of all I had to protect my wife from any evil that might still remain in the universe. One thing was true, I would never be alone again.
